High Field MRI Preparations Explained by Hill Medical

What do you need to prepare for your high field MRI?

No special preparation is required prior to a high field MRI exam. You may eat normally and go about your daily routine unless you have scheduled your high field MRI appointment with sedation. If so, then don’t have any food or drinks 4 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. In addition, you must have someone drive you after your high field MRI. Continue to take any medication prescribed by your doctor unless directed otherwise.

Because of the magnetic field, you will be asked to leave the following items in a safe place outside the scan room:

  • Coins
  • Jewelry
  • Watches
  • Glasses
  • Credit Cards
  • Keys
  • Hair Pens
  • Other Metal Objects
  • Some Cosmetics may contain metal

What do I bring with me to my high field MRI appointment?

Some implanted devices are safe and can be imaged with MRI, others are not. Please notify our staff if you have implants, prior to your appointment with us.

This information can be verified by filling out a safety screening form. When you arrive, you will be asked to complete and review necessary forms including a safety screening form. If you’d like to save some time, you may click here, and before your visit with us, fill out the forms and either bring them with you or fax them to our office.

Upon arrival you also be will be asked to provide your insurance card and picture identification.

You may also bring someone with you when you are being scanned.

High field MRI is a versatile diagnostic tool and is used to identify a variety of injuries, illnesses and diseases. Your doctor can explain the specific reasons for ordering your MRI scan.
