Interventional Neuroradiology

Interventional Neuroradiology is an evolving specialty for minimally-invasive percutaneous and endovascular treatment of brain and spine diseases. Using advanced cross-sectional and three dimensional imaging, these procedures show great promise for improved diagnosis and clinical outcomes. The endovascular procedures are performed at Huntington Health, in a dedicated biplane neuroangiography lab equipped with rotational angiography and 3D reconstruction software. In a collaborative relationship with other disciplines, we have full anesthesia support on a daily basis for elective and emergency procedures. Stroke neurologists are actively engaged in the management of ischemic stroke patients. We have access to the most modern neurological prosthetic implants (coils, stents, particulate, and liquid embolic materials) and disposable equipment (microcatheters, micro guidewires, and retrievers).

Commonly Treated Diseases

  • Cerebral aneurysms
  • Brain arteriovenous malformations
  • Dural arteriovenous fistulas
  • Acute ischemic stroke
  • Intra-cranial tumors (e.g. meningioma, hemangioblastoma)
  • Epistaxis
  • Intracranial and extra-cranial atherosclerotic stenosis
  • Traumatic carotid and vertebral artery injury
  • Osteoporotic and neoplastic spinal insufficiency fractures
  • Cutaneous vascular anomalies (e.g. venous malformations, lymphatic malformations, hemangiomas)

Common Neurointerventional Radiology Procedures

  • Cerebral aneurysm coiling
  • Carotid artery angioplasty and stenting
  • Dural and Spinal arterio-venous fistula embolizations
  • Diagnostic catheter cerebral angiograms
  • Embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations
  • Pre-operative and palliative tumor embolization
  • Epistaxis treatment
  • Embolization of facial and neck malformations
  • Dural venous sinus stenting for idiopathic intracranial hypertension
