What can you expect?
You will lie on a table with one arm extended on the pillow. The automated scanner arm with an attached ultrasound probe will be held by the technologist and placed on your breast. The technologist will guide the automated device across each breast. You will only feel pressure from the probe. The exam takes approximately 15 minutes.
What studies have been performed with SonoCiné?
Approximately 6,000 exams have been performed. Over 80 cancerous nodules have been seen in about 55 patients. Although some of these abnormalities have been present on physical exam and/or mammography also, approximately 30 of these malignant nodules were not present on mammograms.
Who may participate in the study?
- Women who are at least 35 years old.
- Women who meet the usual criteria for breast screening.
- Women with no history of breast cancer for at least one year.
- Women with one 1st degree relative or two 2nd degree relatives with a history of breast cancer.
- Women who have not had a Screening Mammogram in the past 10 months (1st arm) or had a Screening Mammogram within the past five to seven months.
- Women with mammographically moderately or very dense breast tissue.
- Women who wish to have greater assurance that they do not have breast cancer.
- Women with implants (all the tissue is visible above the implants).
- Women with fibrocystic breasts.
