What can you expect?
As you are lying on a table, a thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein through a sheath. With ultrasound guidance, the radiologist guides the laser into position. You will receive a local anesthetic along the course of the laser fiber. The vein is lasered while the laser fiber is being pulled out. The procedure takes about an hour.
How does this laser treat varicose veins?
ELVS delivers the right wavelength of laser energy to the right tissue, causing the incompetent vein to close while your body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.
